What is your life?
Often we become so busy that we don't pause to take inventory of our lives. Are you content with how things are, or is there something in your life that needs to be changed?
Many of the road bumps and detours in our lives come as a result of our own making. We are designed by God to have a relationship with Him. But, because of our sinful attitudes and actions, there has been a separation. And no matter how hard we try, there is nothing we can do on our own to fix the problem. Everything about us is lacking in comparison to a holy God. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)". "All of us have become like something unclean (Isaiah 64:6a)". The good news is that God does not leave us without hope and direction.
Jesus said in Matthew 7:7-8, "Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one whosearches finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened".
Here is where to begin:
1. Ask--"God, if you are out there, please show me that You are real. I need help." If you ask God with a humble heart and truly want to know Him, God will show you that He is real. Right now God is showing you His love through these words. God loves you more than you love yourself, and He wants you to know Him.
2. Seek--You haven't found an adequate answer in people, money, pleasure, religion or yourself. Where can you find truth? Please consider the Bible. I did not see God write the Bible, and I have not met Jesus on the street. So how do I know it is reliable? Many more Bible manuscripts have been discovered than any other ancient texts. The oldest scrolls and quotations of the Bible date back almost 2,000 years ago (100-150 A.D.) when people who had known Jesus (or know people who had known Him) where still alive. Hundreds of years before Christ was born more than forty prophecies were made by God's prophets foretelling details about the promised Messiah (Old Testament). Every one of those prophecies was fulfilled and is being fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
Considering the historical accuracy of the Bible, its verification by the early church, the fact that the Bible is the best selling book of all time, and the power it has to change lives--considering that it is a viable option you may have overlooked thus far--why not give the Bible a try?
Isaiah 55:6-7: "Seek the Lord while He may be found; call to Him while He is near. Let the wicked one abandon his way, and the sinful one his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, so He may have compassion on him, and to our God, for He will freely forgive."
3. Knock--Maybe you live by a different book, worship many gods, or you have been taught that you can't have personal access to God. You may own a Bible, but you have let it collect dust. God has made the Bible available for all people to learn about Him. And the only way to really know what the Bible is all about is to find out for yourself. A good place to begin is I John, Luke, and Acts (all in the New Testament).
Jesus gives us hope--"I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved and will come in and go out and find pasture (John 10:9)." He also said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life, No one comes to the Father except through Me."
Religious rituals can leave us empty, because they are not used in the way God intended. In the Bible you will find that God wants to give you forgiveness, peace, and purpose.
A more meaningful life can be yours TODAY!
Jesus came to earth to die on the cross--to take the penalty of our sins (which is death) for us. He did not have to die, but He did it willingly out of His incredible love for you and me. If that were the end of the story there would be no hope for us. But He didn't stay dead! Read an account of some people who saw the resurrected Christ, the "Word of Life".
1 John chapter 1 verses 1-4:
"What was for the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have observed, and have touched with our hands, concerning the Word of life--that life was revealed, and we have seen it and we testify and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us--what we have seen and heard we also declare to you, so that you may have fellowship along with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete."
By God's grace, through faith in Jesus Christ, you can have a relationship with God, fellowship with other people, a life filled with joy, and the assurance of eternal life. This truly meaningful life can be yours today.
"For god loved the world in this way: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).
To make this verse personal, you can put your name in the blanks:
For God loved __________ that He have His one and only Son, so that if __________ believes in Him, __________ will not perish, but __________ will have everlasting life.
To receive God's free gift of life:
If you have chosen to place your trust in Christ, you have passed from spiritual death to spiritual life--you are a forgiven child of God! You may ask, "Now what?". Read God's Word the Bible and begin faithfully attending a Bible believing church. At church you will learn about God and His wonderful plan for your life. You will also find fellowship with fellow believers.
You probably already realize that your new life does not mean that everything will now be perfect (not until we are with God in heaven). We live in an imperfect world, and you may have consequences from past sin to deal with. However, you are not alone! God promises to be with you, and as you depend on Him He will guide you and give you strength. God wants to do amazing things in and through you (Romans 8:28-29).
